Well this is a bummer, seems that the North Pacific Gyre (large vortex of currents) has accumulated a trash patch of plastic shit the size of Texas in the middle of the Pacific. Traditionally these large vortexes were nutrient rich due to the fact that they accumulated everything in the Pacific, but since plastic is not bio-degradable, it lingers, breaking down into smaller particles and reeking havoc on all forms of animal life, all the way down to tiny plankton, who will get consumed by other animals, resulting in plastics working up the food chain. Birds and other animals are also consuming the plastic and dieing. Check out some of the pics. This is pretty scary.
