Seaside Motel: Kind Bud: All The Little Weeds

Let's talk a little about weed, or should I say, lets talk about the little weeds, and I'm not referring to that Mary j., maui waui, kush or dandelions in your backyard. These little weeds consist of surfers, filmmakers, writers, models, and photographers. Little weeds is a Australian based contest, sponsored by STAB Magazine and Billabong. The contest is pretty sweet considering what you can win, which includes the cover of Stab, a sponsorship with Billabong, the editor's keys to STAB for an issue and a ton of other awesome prizes. All nationalities are welcome to compete, even though this little shindig is taking place down under. However, if you're a yank, there is one tiny problem, STAB can't afford to fly you over if you happen to win, but at least you have the chance to try your luck.

Here's the scoop:
Little Weeds is a series of three five-to-six week heats. It's an online competition where you create a profile and upload photos and video of yourself. Those entries are then voted on by the public. There are five categories: modelling, surfing, writing, photography and videography. The three winners of the three heats (ultimately chosen by mentors after considering all votes and comments) of all five categories will be flown to an undisclosed location in July to compete against other Little Weeds. From here (and sponsorship proposals willing), we'll take all five winners to another undisclosed location (okay, Bali) and create an entire issue of Stab (or Spit x Stab) on-location created by and featuring Little Weeds winners.

A taste of the competition: here is one of the finalists in the contest, Riley Blakeway. He's got some pretty impressive work under his belt, he's only 19, and he shot with Dustin Humphrey before shooting Modern Collective. All in all, I can see why he is one of the top little weeds.
